The Story Behind This Book

Wake Up�is a book that I wrote result of my own personal experience overcoming depression. I started waking up early to focus on myself and my well-being. I thought if I could just wake up early, I know I would fill it with good stuff.

Waking up early was the most life-changing habit I ever did. You see, it cleared the space for many other habits like meditation, journaling, exercise, and learning. I wrote a post about how my life changed after one year of waking up early. It quickly became the most popular post on my blog by far. In fact, I was contacted by a popular habit tracking app to develop a coaching program for wannabe early-risers.

While coaching clients, I have learned a lot about why people want to wake up early. Not only are people depressed and unhappy with their lives, they are overwhelmed, confused, lost, and don't have any time for themselves.

I wrote this book for two reasons:

  • To help you carve out time for yourself to create your perfect morning ritual
  • To get you thinking about the bigger picture of your life. What is your life purpose? Why are you here on this planet now? Are you sleepwalking through life or are you actively creating the life you want?
  • Waking up early helped me wake up to my true self. I was able to see evaluate my life with clarity and focus. I got in touch with my heart center and discovered my connection with my soul. I want to help you find that for yourself.

    This book is about how a few simple habits can change your life. It helps you align yourself with your natural, organic purpose. It will give you the tools you need to rediscover your joy and find the freedom to follow your curiosity and enthusiasm. And give you courage to show it to the world.

    About the Author
    Jeff Finley is an artist, designer, writer, musician, and creative entrepreneur. He was a partner at the design firm Go Media from 2006-2014 and founded Weapons of Mass Creation Fest in 2010. Over the past decade he has lived life based around his passion to create and inspire others. He wrote Thread’s Not Dead in 2006 which helped thousands of up and coming t-shirt designers launch their clothing companies. In 2013, Jeff admitted he was going through depression despite having achieved many hallmarks of success. He started waking up early to focus on his own personal development which led to a spiritual awakening and a sense of greater purpose.     Are You Ready to Wake Up?

    Do you feel like you don't have enough time in your daily routine to do things that can benefit YOU? Do you prioritize other people's happiness before your own (much like what I did)? Jeff acknowledges these and goes into further detail with each and helps the reader notice what is an excuse and what is misguided. Jeff explains to the reader the several different types of habits, what trigger these habits and what is the "reward" for following these habits. This is a very easy read for those that truly want to change something about their life. Regardless if you come out of this book with the ability to literally wake up early, I promise you will find ways in which you have "woken up" something inside you and about yourself.

    Just by reading this book, I am now noticing all of the things I did that were distractions, (Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc.) and I was able to purge myself of some of these. I am using the time that I would normally spend on Facebook to read more books, or listen to an audiobook or a podcast. In fact, I'm listening to one right now as I type this review.

    Overall, a very high 5 star rating. I look forward to pursuing my journey of self-love and even more, further integrating the recommendations that Jeff makes in this book into my life. Be sure to bookmark all of the apps, videos and books he recommends throughout the read. But if not, they're all listed in the back!

    An enjoyable read for night owls and early birds

    I enjoy books that challenge me to see a particular subject differently than I did before. It's always refreshing to see another persons perspective and read about their life experiences that I can apply to my own life. Jeff captures his journey to find the right morning routine perfectly in his book "Wake Up". After I read his book front to back I felt like I had woken up! It really did change my life!

    I'm someone who considers themselves a night owl like Jeff and a creatively driven individual that likes to switch up my routine to get the most out of my day and keep my life from becoming too mundane.This book has phenomenal tips and tricks on how to do just that! I've tried a handful of Jeff's suggestions in the book for ways turn off my brain before going to bed and ways that I can prepare for the morning that motivate me to get up and get going!

    Not only does he talk about creating a morning routine that works for you but he also addresses creating new habits and how our habits affect us daily. He talks through his struggles and is very transparent which I appreciate because that resonates with me and I can relate to so many of his experiences.

    I also appreciate all of the book, apps and podcast recommends at the end of the book. Eventually I'll get around to checking out all of his recommends!

    Changed My Life

    Wake Up completely altered how I see my habits and routines. It helped me to realize that my actions matter and that most of all the power is in my hands to create happiness for myself. Jeff has a way of putting complex ideas into simple words. Such a fun and easy read -- will forever be one of my favorites!
