Have not started, but strategies are accurate

I am currently a graduate student and I just found out about this book last week. After reading this book I realized that is very accurate and precise in its methods. Two of my teachers who teach this method ( but not this clear) basically said the same thing and used this same method. I haven't used it yet ( but I will starting tomorrow) but I'm sure it works as my professors used it and other classmates to do well. I will come back at the end of my term and do another review.

The best book that I have ever read in preparing me for success in academics. However, I disagree with the word study. Because studying is a Important word and although you have the three BP's along with the POH I believe you should have a set time for studying your BP's separate from your BPRS or BPNS. Just buy the book it changed my academic success as a learning disability student!!!!!!

Good read but definitely biased

I'm currently using this book as part of a Humans and Animals studies course. The information is all very interesting and the book flows with easy understanding. The only thing I have noticed is that it becomes a bible for animal activism. As a Biological Anthropology major, the bias in this book is slightly alarming but once you get through the authors opinions the information given is definitely worth reading.

Great introduction

I've purchased this book because I am a lecturer and researcher in the field of animal ethics. Although I have read 3 chapters, I consider this book a very good introduction for an entirely new field: anthrozoology. In the introduction the author launches very tempting research questions that are useful to unveil core questions about the way we understand our relationships with nonhuman animals. I would recommend this work for hose interested in he field of human animal studies.

Fantastic read, absurd amount of information

I need to preface this by saying that I've been reading Bill Simmons for over 8 years now, before the fame, before the podcasts and almost frightening fan following.I've seen him mature from the old Boston Sports Guy to this all-media presence now, and in the process, his writing has greatly improved. The culmination of such an improvement is this wonderful book, "The Book of Basketball".

I managed to get an early copy of this book, and spent the next 48 hours plowing through it as fast as I could. It's very clear that Simmons put everything he had into the book. There aren't a lot of loose words around. Even the genitalia jokes are well-constructed. Yes, it's pretty good.

The basis of this book is determining who mattered in the NBA. Which teams, players, coaches, etc. played the biggest role in getting us to where we are today, in shaping our perception of what it takes to win in the NBA, and how we remember different players and events. It's very interesting to see him go back into the 60s and 70s and try to write about Walton, Russell, and Chamberlain and how they were perceived then, and try to get to see what forces created and changed that perception. This is ultimately what the book is all about. It reads almost like a history of the NBA, in a very easy-to-read style.

My personal favorites are his ABA pieces. Not nearly enough has been written about this crazy league, and Simmons did a very good job looking at just how things broke down, at what could have been, and how the ABA led to many fundamental changes in the NBA itself.

Finally, this is definitely a book for the NBA junkie. It's comic style and easy-to-read writing style does make it accessible to those with only mild-to-intermediate interest in the NBA, but at its core, it's for the junkies who want to fill up with as much NBA knowledge as possible. It's a great book, and for its price (as of October 27, 2009), a great deal.

I always follow and like the NBA

If I could, that would have been my rating.....to wit: The writing quality, wit, and obvious passion is 5-star quality. The passion yields some diversion that I think even the most NBA wonk might get a bit overwhelmed by. As I await game seven of the NBA playoffs, my interest is at its peak, I always follow and like the NBA, liking it more during the playoffs, especially the last few years with players like Paul,Westbrook, Curry, Durant, Lebron to follow. But, Wow, I never plowed the depths that BS wants to take...I admire the passion and most of the reasoning, but maybe for me 4-500 pages would have sufficed. My 3-star rating is for the hypothetical examinations, a tad interesting for a bit, then it goes on and on, and....you get the picture. BTW, his postscripts were must-read 5-star stuff. Thanks Bill, I look forward to your HBO series. Bo Roberts
