Comprehensive and creative, theory and practice

This book is a good introduction to the use of creative writing techniques for people who want to better understand what they bring to their work and what is going on in work situations, but it is also useful for people who are already engaged in reflective practice. The book provides clear and focused discussions of the theoretical context for this approach including the values that inform it as well why specific things like metaphor and narrative play important roles in reflection. Importantly, the book offers specific exercises that put theory into practice and writing samples from people who have used the technique. The book differentiates between writing for professional development and writing for therapeutic or personal reasons and pays attention to the social and ethical dimensions of this kind of effort. I have used Dr. Bolton's approach for my own reflective practice and in educational settings. It opens up understanding and insight in ways that more analytical (20-question) approaches cannot. Highly recommended.

The author offers prescriptive approaches to how to broaden perspective of the emerging creative writer through journaling, narrative storytelling and academic writing. Many practical exercises are outlined to practice expressive writing. I have read several books about auto-ethnography in practice and this is a great complement to any writer's library.

JD Robb is my favorite living author.

I have all the books in the series except I have lost the first one - I may have to go back and buy it again.
I said graphic violence and explicit sexual content. This is true, but it is an improvement to the story and characters, never just thrown in. I have grown to love all the characters that have been introduced and kept in the stories - and there are quite a few. In all the early works, a new character (sometimes 2) was introduced. Then, that character was part of a subplot. After that each new character shows up in each book somewhere and you learn or relearn sometime about them. Before my stroke, I could have described and told you about each and every character. Now, I still recognize them when I see them in the works. Thanks JD, you are wonderful - don't stop.

Still love this series!!!

The Eve Dallas in Death series continues to remain one of my favorites! I love the characters, the setting and the murders that Eve, Roarke, Peabody and company have to solve - the author always stays one step ahead of the readers and they are never able to guess what is going to happen next! The reader stays on the edge of their seat wondering, plotting, guessing and at times swooning over the love story that is Eve and Roarke.

This book is fun, different and unique to their world. The author continues to come up with new storylines and ideas and I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series! If you have never read this series, you are more than missing out! Grab one of these books and fall instantly in love!

Now I need another Robb!

WOW! This grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go until the end. I mean, WOW. I never read murder mysteries, but I was drawn to this one because of the tough woman cop who takes the reader through the story. Well written and surprising. I'm going to check out more stories by JD Robb.
