Other books barely mention media buying which is at least half the importance of the function. None give a paragraph to IMC or integration. So here's why I decided to write my own book!

Media is a creative, strategic marketing discipline, and should be presented that way.We are in an exciting period with change all around us. We are in the midst of a 21st century revolution, but no authors seem to have noted that fact, other than the digital revolution.

Current books are not comprehensive, e.g., barely mentioning the discipline of MEDIA BUYING which is at least half of the importance of the media function. Finally, most media books are badly out of date and have somehow lost much marketing focusAnd they are boring, hard to understand, and uninspiring (too bad because it is a fascinating time.

Awesome media textbook

Very thorough textbook on media planning and buying. Professors should enjoy this book because it provides enough information for them to structure their course in a variety of different ways, or even use it for multiple courses. There is also a workbook available for this book as well so professors can easily assign homework assignments that are made to accompany the readings in this book.

I liked this book because it is up to date and includes examples and information using some of today's most popular companies. All of the information in this book is designed to educate students about the future of media, and it covers what is happening with media now such as the decline of newspapers and the rise of devices that allow you to skip commercials. There is a "target audience" section which covers how to best reach your target audience based on which generation they are from and provides information on the Baby Boomer generation, Generation X, Generation Y, and the newest group generation Z which will become even more of a target audience for many college students now by the time they graduate.

Students will find that this textbook is easier to read than many other textbooks and includes several helpful graphs and charts. There is a section on job opportunities which is very helpful for any students that are seriously interested in pursuing a career in media. Each chapter in the book is divided up into several smaller subsections which makes the book easier to read and understand. There is also a chapter summary at the end of each chapter which provides a short break down of the main points covered in the chapter which is perfect for reviewing before a test or quiz.

Informative and comprehensive

I teach many advertising and marketing related courses at my local college, it seems now that the biggest and most important topic I need to teach to my students are the newer forms and techniques related to media buying and how to efficiently plan a campaign. I have been searching for some quality books and information to read with the class and up until I came across this book I really wasn't having much luck finding anything sufficient enough for their high standard of learning. After reading just a few chapters of this book I knew that this was exactly what I have been looking for, the material will be perfect for the class due to it being very informative and detailed, but also written in a way that is easy to understand and learn from. Perfect for my students.

This is definitely going to be the book of the year in regards to what my class is going to emphasis in their studies, I read through the book myself to make some notes and prioritize what I was going to teach first and I literally didn't see any out of date or useless information, I am quite impressed because usually I have to trim unneeded parts and it can become quite tedious. The book is definitely the most comprehensive and educational media planning book that I have ever came across. I am looking forward to finishing the book with the class.

Comprehensive and Relevant

As a 25+ year media professional and an adjunct professor teaching Strategic Media Planning, I was thrilled to find a text and workbook that looks at media as it stands currently and discusses it in a real world way. I have adopted this text, workbook and thumbnail planner for my classes and look forward to engaging the students with this information. It's been difficult to find a text that talks about digital and alternative media and also careers in the media field. This text covers everything and then more, while making even the dreaded Media Math interesting and interactive.

For students considering a career in advertising or media, this is a text and workbook that should definitely be put on the shelf for future reference.

This makes it user friendly in our world of rapidly expanding knowledge and seemingly shrinking time. Third, the book is an appropriate reference for persons in various stages of learning, from the medical student to the practicing cardiologist a range of interest much desired by authors and publishers, but rarely achieved. The American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association guidelines for the management of different cardiac conditions have unequivocally improved outcomes and have an appropriately prominent place in Cardiology: Handbook for Clinicians. Electrocardiography also occupies a conspicuous position in the text by dint of its noninvasive, inexpensive, diagnostic capabilities that have made it arguably the most important portion of the cardiovascular boardexamination. Outstanding work

I recently read with pleasure Dr Hanna's manual. Being a cardiology fellow, I have used in the past other cardiology manuals but I find this one more helpful and much easier to read and learn practical ideas from. I am really impressed. Clinical chapters are very well organized and thoroughly address practical dilemmas, some of which are not well addressed in major textbooks! The information is clear, well outlined and well referenced. The chapters on ACS and ACS pharmacology, stable angina, heart failure, arrhythmias, pericardial diseases, peripheral arterial diseases, pulmonary hypertension and syncope are simply outstanding. The ECG and echocardiography chapters are certainly a big plus in comparison to other available cardiology manuals. ECG criteria are clearly interpreted and well illustrated with plenty of examples, with an excellent approach to the analysis and differential diagnosis of ischemia on ECG. Also, there are over 55 thoroughly interpreted ECG and arrhythmias tests. The echocardiography chapter is also well illustrated and addresses practical caveats in valvular disease evaluation. The hemodynamic and coronary intervention chapters are compact and high-yield.
I believe this book would help cardiology fellows, certainly the junior fellows but also the more senior fellows like me (it will serve as a useful review). It would also help medicine residents and interested medical students. I wish I read such a book in my residency.

Excellent handbook!!!

I have reviewed this handbook,written by Dr Hanna, and find it to be extremely helpful.I am currently in my first year of fellowship and realized that this handbook serves my purpose well. The chapters are well laid out and the illustrations are excellent. The author seems to have a thorough grasp of the subject and is update with the latest trials in the field of cardiology.
The first few chapters on Ischemic heart disease are worth reading,just like the rest of the book. The ECG,cardiac catheterization and echo chapters are well written and for a new cardiology fellow it is of immense help. I use this handbook on a day to day basis and it answers most ,if not all of my questions.Of course,it is not going to supplement Braunwalds or other bulky textbooks ,but it sure does serve the purpose well,on a busy ward/unit/clinic days for a quick review.
I would have no hesitation recommending this book to all cardiology fellows and medicine residents and even general practioners.Excellent handbook of cardiology!!!

I would buy this book for the first chapter alone- which contains one of the best explanations of algorithm complexity and effic

An absolute gem in clarity and depth of topic. I only have a background in C/C++ with a little knowledge of discrete math. This book builds upon those knowledge and takes you in-depth with the different algorithms and how to analyze their complexity. I would buy this book for the first chapter alone- which contains one of the best explanations of algorithm complexity and efficiency, without stripping the academic overtone (formal definitions). There plenty of examples provided by the author is the perfect pedagogy for anyone who learns by example and I cannot overstate how eloquent and easy to understand the author makes the material out to be, eventhough they are quite difficult concepts. Dr. Neapolitan book should come highly recommended to anyone who struggled with other Algorithm books not just for a graduate or undergrad course, but also for self-study.

I tried those algorithm books

Algorithm Design by Kleiberg
Algorithms (4th Edition) by Sedgewick

My favorite is Neapolitan's, because
1.
It covers both design paradigms and complexity analysis.
Kleinberg's focus on design paradigm, and
Sedgewick's focus on complexity analysis of already existing algorithms.
Neapolitan is somewhere between those two.
2.
I like the author's presentation style.
: it start with a very easy algorithm at the beginning of each chapter and gradually increase the difficulty.
It really helps to understand the design paradigm, NOT to memorize each algorithm.
3.
It contains pseudo code, making the book practical.
This also makes the reading more clear and compact.

Good Algorithms book

This was a great algorithms book. I used it for a grad level algorithms course where we went in depth into every chapter of this book, and I am very glad that he chose this book. This books makes all of the chapters relatively easy, even when the algorithm being discussed is fairly difficult to grasp. I am going to be reading CLRS next during my free time to better understand some of the harder to grasp algorithms and in order to learn some algorithms not discussed in this book, as it is cheaper than this book and more highly regarded, but I still really enjoyed this book.

About the Author
Dr. Werner W.K. Hoeger Professor Emeritus in the Department of Kinesiology at Boise State University, and fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. The 2004 recipient of the Presidential Award for Research and Scholarship in the College of Education at Boise State University, Dr. Hoeger continues to research and lecture on exercise physiology, physical fitness, and wellness. In addition to PRINCIPLES AND LABS FOR PHYSICAL FITNESS, Dr. Hoeger has published several Cengage Learning texts, including Fitness and Wellness, Principles and Labs for Fitness and Wellness, Lifetime Physical Fitness and Wellness, Wellness: Guidelines for a Healthy Lifestyle, and Water Aerobics for Fitness and Wellness (with Terry-Ann Spitzer Gibson). It's a really good book

It's a really good book and it gives you a broad information about wellness and fitness, and helps you understand what you need to do to keep yourself in a good weight and fitness condition.

In my case I have always been trying to be involve in sports, like skiing, running, cycling.

So I enjoy reading the book and learning a little more about this subject.

The authors did a great job of telling stories and providing real world case ...

The Influencer: The Power to Change Anything, really opened my eyes to the necessity of changing individuals behaviors, before being able to implement change. The authors did a great job of telling stories and providing real world case studies in which the reader could relate to the strategies and sources provided. Ensuring people believe the change will be worth it, and what is required can be done is key to initializing change. Utilizing the six sources of influence and implementing them during the change process is key to success in change. I could really relate with this book in my day to day life as well in my coaching career. Reading this book has helped me to step back in my coaching career and look at each individual player and not just the team as a whole. Each one is different, and if I want them to change something, I will have to go about do so differently.

One of the most impactful books I have read this year

"Influencer - The New Science of Leading Change" is one of the most impactful books I have read this year. I have already recommended it to dozens of clients, colleagues and friends. Authors Joseph Grenny, Kerry Patterson, David Maxfield, Ron McMillan, and Al Switzler have drawn from extensive well of global experience of advising companies and leaders in Change Leadership.

The book is a beautifully crafted weaving together of researched principles regarding Influence and Change, highlighted with gripping vignettes that show examples of how these principles have been applied successful, or misapplied unsuccessfully. The stories make this book breathe.

One of the first and best examples is the story of how an employee at Danny Meyer's Gramercy Tavern in New York City noticed that a female patron was distraught as she entered the restaurant. She had inadvertently left her cell phone and purse in the a. She was in a panic. She did not know whom she was supposed to meet, how she would pay for her meal, or how to retrieve her lost belongings. The host immediately went into superhero mode, helping her to find the group she was to join, assuring her that paying for the meal was the least of his concern. He then asked her for her cell phone number, found someone to man the host desk, and went into problem-solving mode. He spent over 30 minutes calling the woman's cell phone, finally reaching the cab driver, who by this time was far away in the Bronx. The Gramercy employee offered to take a cab uptown to meet the driver half way. He did so, retrieved the lost purse and cell phone, and returned to the restaurant before the woman and her group had finished their meals.

Throughout subsequent chapters, the authors point out specific steps that Mr. Meyer had taken along the way to create an ethos and culture in which this kind of extraordinary customer service is expected to be offered by every employee. This book is not only valuable for business leaders and owners, it also contains many examples of how individuals have applied the principles of influence within families and personal relationships.

I look forward to continuing to learn to apply these principles in my own career and life, and look forward to continue recommending this gem to others.

The book has some useful information, but I feel like they used 100 ...

The book has some useful information, but I feel like they used 100 examples to illustrate every single simple point that was made. As a read, it was dry and wasn't that interesting. A lot of the change efforts that it talked about were large national or company-wide instances. I felt like I would have gotten more out of it if it had focused on workgroups, community groups, or family units.

Healthcare is undergoing many changes these days which has long been overdue for those of us who have been patients. Lean thinking has been spreading globally for decades in product and service businesses. In the last few years this value stream improvement methodology has been gaining support in health care. Now there is a step by step guide for visualizing the patient experience and improving the flow of value with Perfecting Patient Journeys.

Published by the Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI) Perfecting Patient Journeys is a guide for leaders of healthcare organizations who want to implement lean thinking. Readers will learn how to identify and select a problem, define a project scope, and create a shared understanding of what's occurring in the value stream. Readers will also learn to develop a shared vision of an improved future, and how to work together to make that vision a reality.

The authors describe and advocate a value-stream approach to improvement bringing together both scientific and cultural components needed to transform Lean Healthcare.

The workbook comprises of 8 chapters which constitutes the steps of the improvement cycle:
Team-based problem solving and learning for continuous improvement
Scoping your improvement project
Value-stream mapping - current state
Future-state mapping
Measuring the future state and planning for change
Establishing project management
Keeping your improvement project on track

The basis of the workbook was a field guide developed for support of training during collaborative sessions in a project with MHA Keystone Center for Patient Safety & Quality. Throughout the book the authors, who worked on the project, utilize their case study of St. Luke's Hospital initiative to improve the performance of their emergency department as an example. They include details of improvement from St. Luke's that makes it easy to follow and implement this improvement approach.

While this workbook is intended for practitioners with direct interaction with patients it also helps senior leadership understand and support system level improvements. Written is a clear manner without excessive Lean jargon or terminology, this book presents the value-stream improvement approach, which simultaneously blends the ability to change structure and process while changing culture.

Perfecting Patient Journeys follows the style as other LEI workbooks but has a different look. This workbook doesn't have the typical spiral binding of the other workbooks as it a hard cover book. Likely this was done to better market the target audience of healthcare professionals. Personally I prefer the spiral bound style for its convenience in the gemba or at team meetings.

While the audience for this book is clearly healthcare workers it has easy application for any service process. This guide presents a method to sort through problems, establish priorities, and focus on solving the right problems with teamwork which is applicable in all processes. Lean practitioners and those alike interested in learning an improvement methodology based on eliminating waste within a value stream with teamwork will find this book a helpful reference guide.

A roadmap to successful outcomes

Perfecting Patient Journeys is a wonderful road-map to achieving successful outcomes in emergency departments as well as other departments in a hospital. I was aware of the success of the Lean approach at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester)emergency department. I was then fortunate enough to have one of the book's authors, Karl Ohaus, volunteer his time and fortune to assist my Bach Mai Hospital Project to successfully improve the operation of Bach Mai's emergency department - a very busy emergency department and teaching center, in the 2000 bed government hospital for the poor, in Hanoi, Vietnam. Karl's efforts, Lean's program and the book's stress on the beneficial effects of teamwork can really make a difference that can be a model for other areas of a hospital.
The authors are to be congratulated on a nice, easy to read, book that should prove valuable to several areas of our health care system.

I was disappointed

This book is egregiously overpriced, that's my main complaint. OK at $9.99 for a reader not well versed in Lean, but I feel ripped off at this price for a eBook. I read it on my iPad in one sitting during a flight from SFO to BOS, and didn't learn anything I didn't already know. The "fictitious hospital" was annoying. How about some real world examples? (as in the much better book "Healthcare Kaizen.") I bought this because it came from the ThedaCare Center. I have greatly enjoyed the works of Dr. Toussaint published there. I will look a bit more closely next time.

A Fabulous conclusion to the story!

I enjoyed the first book in this series so much that I had to immediately start reading the second one. Because every happy ending can have a few bumps along the way. A note to readers, though, you really have to read For All of Ever first or you’ll miss half the fun. This was a wonderful conclusion to that story, and I couldn’t put it down. Once in a while you run across a series of books where you meet characters whose stories you are dying to read. This is one of those series. In reading this book, I had several characters picked out who fascinated me enough to be begging for their story. And I love the way the author includes the characters from the previous books, really enriching the read. Katherine and Riordan’s story will stay on my keeper shelf for many more reads to come.

DIANE MUSHO HAMILTON is an award-winning professional mediator, author, facilitator, and teacher of Zen and Integral Spirituality. She has been a practitioner of meditation for more than thirty years. Diane facilitates Big Mind Big Heart, a process developed to help elicit the insights of Zen in Western audiences. Diane is considered a pioneer in articulating the wisdom of an Integral Life Practice and has worked with Ken Wilber and the Integral Institute in Denver, Colorado, since 2004. She is also the cofounder of Two Arrows Zen, a center for Zen practice and study in Salt Lake City, Utah with her husband, Michael Mugaku Zimmerman. In 2012 she cofounded Integral Facilitator, her uniquely developmental approach to group facilitation mastery.

When two become one

Fresh, personal, pragmatic, and ever so wise, this book is for anyone that cares about being more connected and fluid in relationships to others.

One unique aspect of Diane’s writing that I especially appreciate is the way she nudges me along the path of a more real and compassionate way to be in relationship to others, especially when it is difficult.

As you read this book, you might find yourself experiencing increasing friendliness towards improving the sometimes mysterious, sometimes messy relationships in your life. And her guidance is golden.

This book is small enough to be digested in one sitting, and important enough to share with as many of your friends as you can. This book is an ideal support for coaches, leaders, counsellors and good hearted people who crave better connections and the inspiration and wisdom from a contemporary spiritual teacher who is so right for our times.
